Sony is reportedly working on its first 100MP sensor for phones

huh

But they need to work on the design and scrap old style design with top and bottom still as no display.. 100% screen to body ratio under display camera..

notafanboy, 1 hour agoAnything over 50MP is a huge gimmick. I hate the mega pickle race. STOP It!!!Translation your short sighted

You don’t want to have an open mind..

History just keep repeating itself.. keep resisting change only inevitably accept it in the long run..

Then when 100mp is industry standard we gonna hear 120mp is A gimmick

This computational photography for smartphones higher megapixels make sense with the heavy data manipulation direction we are heading towards

But as usual people want to force the rules of DSLRs unto smartphones and think higher MP is a gimmick

I remember when higher than 12mp was a gimmick

So far the hmx combined with the Xiaomi 11 was still probably the best combination detail wise for photos in good light but it didn’t do as well in lowlight. A sensor like you mention seems like it would make sense for more high end phones

Would love to see Sony and Samsung collaborate on a few technologies like the new ‘2-Layer Transistor Pixel’, and combine it with the Triple Gain Sensor technology, they both presented papers on. It could substantially increase dynamic range and improve noise drastically. It could easily equal or beat all present full frame sensors in dynamic range (which is 14 stops). The new Alexa35 apparently does 17 stops at a SNR of 2. So, that should still remains top dog for a few years though.

There is no “after binning”. Sensors are made to read 4 or 9 by default. The full resolution is software based (100%) while 4-1 is hardware based as well, since filter above pixels is not gonna switch position despite some people here think it can be done.

Samples and reviews have proven full res more has zero benefit . It exist just to allow them to brag about 8K and useless digital zoom (upscale and sharpening).

Stop doing this in failed attempt to grab attention. You just embarrass yourself.

There is no “software proper for auto”.
Manual just locks settings , does not change anything else.

FarFan, 2 hours agoThat’s a bummer. True 4K screen can show only 8MP, OLED “4K” – even less. And w… more🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ where do you think that professional photographers/videographers watch back/edit their stuff, on an 8k TV??
Maybe try watching oversampled (or higher than native res) video first, and then come up with such opinions.
Btw I do agree with you that this Mpx race is not worth it, after a certain point that is (don’t tell me 12MP is enough tho lol) and I also tend to prefer traditional Bayer sensor (the good old Lumias😍) over QB/tetra/nonacell sensors, but there’s no denying that they too have their benefits after binning in some situations.

I need huge 300 gram phone with op sensor. I’m currently carrying 2 phones in the same pocket – about 400 grams, and no problems with that whatsoever. Using them as a foldable or mini laptop.

Something like a 1/1.12 inch 100MP Quad Bayer sensor would be nice – after binning you would still get 25MP resolution at the effective pixel pitch of 2µm, so both daytime and nighttime performance could be exceptional without sacrificing one another. Time to put 12/48/50MP sensors flooding the market to an end.

c’mon Sony work a bit on your Auto (point-n’-shoot) algorithm/processing, so that these stupid utubers can shut up once and for all. You already have gr8 (tho not the best) sensors, gr8 glass and gr8 coating (T* like Vivo and unlike some i-mobiles), un-obnoxious camera bump (actually looks sleek), dedicated 2-stage camera button, excellent manual controls for both photo/video, etc!!!
You are just missing the software sauce, c’mon, I’m rooting 4 u!!

That’s a bummer. True 4K screen can show only 8MP, OLED “4K” – even less. And what is the point if it will be binned anyway? Instead of having 1 good camera module, we will have total sum of gigapixel in bunch of mediocre phone cameras. And they will need crazy computing power to handle computing photography on top of that.
