We all know about the wonders of avocados. The fruit holds a premier position in the world of exquisite food items and is often seen in smoothie bowls, milkshakes and on multigrain toasts. Or sour dough bread sandwiches, even. Well, there’s no denying the fact that avocados are expensive and you may just have to ditch a lipstick yearning for you in your wishlist if you pick as little as just three or four avocados. But, there’s something in the fruit that lets it stand apart – the high, high nutritional content. With a bunch of healthy fatty acids, vitamins, monounsaturated aka the good fat and lots more, avocados are perf to enrich your skin (oh, and of course, your gut too) with all that it needs and more. Here are 4 DIY avocado homemade face masks recipes that you must try, ASAP.

For Exfoliation: Avocado, Oats & Honey

Can oatmeal do more than just filling your tummy? Hell yeah! Colloidal oatmeal is a gem for your skin – it can gently exfoliate the skin, sloughing away dead skin and rough flakes to reveal smoother, glowing skin. All of this while not irritating the skin (dry and sensitive skin included) even a bit. And so that the moisture isn’t compromised, the softening honey and nourishing avocados make for the perfect partners.

Method: Mix 3 spoons of mashed avocado with 1 spoon of honey and 2 spoons of oatmeal.

For Moisturizing: Avocado & Hemp Oil

The weekend is almost here and that calls for a skin-loving retreat, even if that requires you to DIY it. Enter the calming and moisturizing duo of avocado and hemp oil that will work in harmony to relieve stress, make your skin more supple and alleviate fatigue. The duo is heavy on moisture but lets you be at ease since it won’t overwhelm your skin (or pores either).

Method: Add mashed avocado and hemp seed oil in equal proportions and apply the paste liberally all over the skin.

For Brightening: Avocado, Yogurt & Turmeric

Give your classic turmeric and yogurt concoction an à la mode twist by infusing some mashed avocado in it. It’s a trio that will work wonders for your skin if it’s feeling tired, dull or simply unhappy. Yogurt will mildly resurface (thank you, lactic acid), turmeric will brighten and heal (thank you, curcumin) and avocados will deeply hydrate and repair (thank you, fatty acids and vitamins). All in all, the mixture will revive your skin for good.

Method: Add 2 teaspoons of turmeric to 1 ½ tablespoon of yogurt. Mix it well and then add 1 tablespoon of mashed avocado.

For Deep Cleansing: Avocado, Clay & Tea Tree Mask

If there’s one skin type that’s perpetually in dire need of care and cleansing, it’s the (most common) combination to oily skin. Excessive sebum causes clogged pores, comedonal acne, zits, dullness and texture on a daily basis, which, if not addressed at regular intervals, may deteriorate the health of the skin. Clay and tea tree are hero ingredients for the said skin type. However, they may cause slight dryness, leaving your skin taut. To avoid that, you introduce avocados to the mixture.

Method: To 3 tablespoons of clay powder (bentonite or kaolin, your choice), add 1 -1 ½ tablespoons of mashed avocado to form a paste-like consistency. Blend in 2-3 drops of tea tree essential oil and give it a whisk before applying on the skin.

Note: As a rule of thumb, all these avocado face masks must be washed off in 15-20 minutes. And, simply rub all of them off in circular motions since they will all have similar textures.
